I'm Sashika Nawarathne. I live in London, where I spend my time building things.
I've been passionate about building things for as long as I can remember. When I was 13 years old, I created my first game using PowerPoint. Well, it wasn't actually a game but a set of slides that followed a logical flow. My father taught a computer class, and thanks to him I had access to computers from a very young age.
Later, I began writing programs using Microsoft Visual Basic. As I grew older, I started learning Java. I still remember spending an entire week building a calculator app. It was very basic, and most of the logic came from Google searches, but it was fascinating to understand how simple logic can create complex applications.
I was thrilled to be selected by the University of Colombo to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. During my undergraduate years, I had the privilege of meeting very talented people and working on many interesting projects. It was an incredible opportunity to follow my passion for computer science and learn the fundamentals.
Today, I'm grateful to spend my time as a software engineer, doing what I love, working on apps used by millions.
P.S.: I had to crop my wife out of the photo, as it's the only one I could find where I look at least somewhat nice 🤫
